It is indeed a proud moment for us to offer our wines to you. Some you may recognize, some may be new to you. It is a common joke that I hoard my wines and, therefore, am not the best salesman in the world. I guess that I kind of look at them as my children and want to keep them close to home and watch them grow and evolve. If you’re a parent, you know that it’s hard to let go, but our bank thinks it’s a good idea.
As a wine member you will enjoy four shipments per year. Shipments will contain 3 of our single-vineyard, small production bottlings selected by the winemaker. Everything about this wine seems to have been done in the “Eleventh Hour”, so that’s what we thought we would name it. After finding out in the eleventh hour that there was already a wine named, the “Eleventh Hour”, “Our 11” was born. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah truly defines the concept of “Synergy”! Vailia’s comments on the wine are, “Well, there’s a lot going on there” and I couldn’t agree more. With notes of bright red fruits, rose petals, and smoked bacon fat, it reminds me of the flavors I think of with the Northern Rhône in France. But there is a lot more going on, and with a richness and elegance in the mouth, it is truly a beautiful and versatile food wine.
Consistently, the following thoughts come to mind: Crème Brûlée with orange zest, spice, apricot, fig, butter, french toast, caramelized orange glaze, and vanilla bean. Can you say Crêpe Suzettes in a glass? The Late Harvest Pinot Blanc has been reasonably priced for the caliber of wine that it is in an effort to get people to try dessert wines who might not do so otherwise.
ORDER NOWIn a never-ending, cascading effect, flavors of Crème Brûlée accented with island spice, apricot and fig-butter fill your palate. Notes of Grand Marnier and brown sugar accented with vanilla bean make this wine a truly delightful experience. Special Limited Library Release, only 200 Cases Available!
ORDER NOWEverything describing the 2001 Alisos Vineyard Syrah holds true with this wine as well, so I will not bore you by rewriting it. The only thing I would add is that 2002 is a little bigger and flashier vintage. This wine is drinking fabulously now, but has much development and evolution ahead of it.
The challenge of the notes on this wine is not where to begin, but where to end….. This wine is INSANE! The floral, citrus, and perfumey aromas, with added notes of butterscotch, vanilla, and caramel, follow deep into the mouth with a perfect balance of sugar and acid. For me, it is basically the purest essence of Gewürztraminer that I have ever experienced, and is one of the only wines that I would ever say I think will last and get better forever. None more need be said!
ORDER NOWWhen I first bottled this wine, I described it as “coy”, or as Merriam-Webster would say, “showing reluctance to make a definite commitment”. Well, it turns out that it was just a late bloomer and has definitely made a firm commitment to the following traits: spicy, peppery, rich, extracted, flavors from the Southern Rhône, earth, tobacco, with vibrant red fruit and dark bing cherries. Basically, it reminds me of Cherries Jubilee with spice, game, and earth tones. Light the grill and enjoy!
ORDER NOWAlthough I know for a fact it’s cliché, there is not much “petite” about this Petite Sirah. Some of this wine is in our blend, the 2007 “Our 11”, but we liked it so much by itself, too, that we decided to bottle a “limited” amount of it on its own. At 50 cases, we thought calling it a “limited (or LTD) edition” was appropriate. This wine has the normal things one thinks of with Petite Sirah, namely, an extremely dark, inky color that stains the glass, but has a beautiful mid-palate with tannins that are rich and velvety which makes it a true joy to drink. With notes of smoke, dark/rich fruit-forward flavors, rhubarb, and a strong blueberry component, this wine is truly pleasurable now, but will certainly last for many years to come.
Much like the 2001 Catherine’s Vineyard Syrah, this wine was definitely coy and understated for quite some time. It now has evolved beautifully into a wine with features of black current, light smoke and spice, rare meat, and a hint of smoked bacon fat (is there anything better?). Overall, it reminds me of Syrah from the Northern Rhône. From a vineyard with two trademarked names already, I decided to name this wine after my cat. And while my cat is quite intelligent, I’m hoping that she is nobody else’s intellectual property.
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate- 89 pts.- “I do not know much about this winery, but this 2002 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard certainly performed well. Smoky cassis and blackberry fruit interwoven with notions of licorice, earth, and chocolate jumps from the glass of this medium to full-bodied effort. With beautiful ripeness, layers of fruit, good acidity, and serious concentration as well as length, it will benefit from another 1-2 years of cellaring, and should evolve for 10-12 years”
Alisos Vineyard is a winemaker’s dream. The wine is always inspiring and exciting from the moment the grapes are picked till the moment the cork is pulled, and absolutely every step in between. Dark and inky, rich, highly extracted with great acidity, peppery, both dark and bright red fruit with plum, it is smoky, gamey, very fruit focused, and regal. With a little bottle age on it, this wine is drinking so fantastically now, but has the structure to last a whole lot longer. After being opened, it evolves for hours…..
